Feathered Frenzy > Canary
|
Canaries are delightful little companions that add a bit of cheeriness to a home. There are many different types and colors; generally the color-bred birds do not have as lovely a song as the type-bred canaries. These birds get from perch to perch by flying, so they need a good-sized cage, longer than tall. They don't fly straight up and down after all! Longer cages are easier to clean as well, because there are less perches vertically to poop on. Canaries are highly susceptible to drafts and odors. Non-stick cookware and cleaning chemicals should not be used anywhere remotely near a canary. The bird should be removed elsewhere and the room thoroughly aired for several hours. An air filter is also highly recommended. Males are usually the only birds that sing in this species. They are sexed according to which birds are singing and which are not. Females can make good companions too, they let out soft little peeps and are unintrusive. Like all birds, canaries can be messy. Anyone who wishes a bird to live in their home must accept that this particular pet makes a big mess.
