Feathered Frenzy > Flamingo
|
Flamingos are probably the most recognized waterfowl. With their long legs, stretchy neck, and not to mention the fact that they're pink, it's no wonder. The mass manufacturing of millions of small plastic counterparts to stick in your lawn undoubtedly lends to their widespread popularity. Flamingos are most comfortable living in large flocks, inhabiting lakes in tropical areas that are a good source of food. Most flamingos feed on algae, diatoms, and shrimp, which gives them their pink color, similar to if a human ate too many carrots they would turn orange. These birds have a lifespan of just under fifty years in captivity. It is not yet known how long they live in the wild.
