Maximilian's Pionus is probably the most popular of the Pionus family of parrots. Of all the pionus, it seems to be the best talker with the best personality. This bird will usually go to other people if well socialized as a baby. They are a quiet bird, particularly when compared to similar sized birds. They are often referred to as the "Perfect Parrot" because of these traits. They are not as hands-on as a cockatoo or a macaw, but a good bird for someone wanting something larger that's not too demanding or intimidating. This parrot makes a wheezing noise when it is frightened, sounding almost like a human having an asthma attack. They also have a naturally musty aroma.
