The Moluccan Cockatoo is a large generally white bird with a soft pink sheen to its feathers. At the base of the crest are some lovely salmon colored feathers, seen when the bird raises the crest in excitement. Unfortunately, far too many moluccan cockatoos are overcrowding avian rescues. While this species is popularly purchased for its cuddly nature, the majority of new owners are ill-prepared for this demanding avian and dump it onto others or in a rescue organization. Moluccans require an extremely large amount of attention every single day. They can scream so loud that you will feel like you want to leave your home. Many cockatoos will rip out their feathers and mutilate themselves, be it from lack of attention, inadequate diet, disease or sheer boredom. This parrot is not for the inexperienced bird owner and not something to be taken lightly.
