Ever year, thousands of birds are dumped into hundreds of pet rescues, shelters, and other organizations, fueled by impulse purchasing. People are fascinated by birds, and will shell out the cash without putting any thought into the bird's future.
With some species living nearly a century, the very FIRST thing that should be considered is the long, long lifespan of these exotic animals. Forty or fifty years of daily snuggling, feeding, poop scraping, toy destroying, vacuuming... It's a long time, even for die-hard parrot fans. Most amazingly, many parrots are purchased without regards as to what will happen when they go away to college, or have children, or another life changing event. It is usually then that the bird is taken to the animal shelter, because the owner did not think these things out ahead of time.
This design is intended to hopefully open an eye or two, to prevent at least one impulse buy. Parrots are extremely intelligent, social animals, and it is our goal to make this a commonly known fact to help prevent future impulse buying.
