Plum-Headed Parakeet < Feathered Frenzy

Plumheaded Parakeets are a member of the ringneck family. They are not common in the pet trade, possibly due to the fact that they do not appreciate affectionate handling. In their native India, you can see huge flocks of the birds shimmering in the sunset. They are quite easily the most beautiful ringneck. Males develop a violet-colored head with a black ring. Females retain the less brilliant plum color. They are able to speak a word or two, and have a very loud, high pitched call, particularly when agitated. A curious bird by nature, this parrot loves to be close to you and in the middle of the action. They make a great aviary bird and love to fly around in groups. Plumheads are sensitive to cold conditions, so keep that in mind before a purchase or adoption. They adore fresh and dried fruits.
