The Rainbow Lorikeet was aptly named. He sports brilliant colors of red, blue, green, and yellow. He is widely used as an aviary bird in many zoos because his beautiful coloration attracts visitors. Their personality, as well, is vibrant. They love to play, wrestle, and interact with people. Many owners have noted this species loves to "play dead," springing back up after mommy or daddy has shrieked in terror. Rainbow lorikeets are best kept for more experienced aviculturists. They require a liquid diet of nectar, unlike other parrots that may eat pellets and seeds. From this diet their poop is very loose and "sticky," which can be very hard to clean up unless kept in an appropriate bird room or outside aviary. They require a large cage as well, because they are a very active bird. The chattering of lorikeets can be quite loud and should be taken into consideration before the bird is acquired.
