The Red-Lored Amazon is a medium-sized amazon (approx 13") with a brightly colored head. A patch of red is directly behind the beak on the forehead, while the cheeks are a vibrant yellow. The personality of this parrot is said to be as attractive as its coloring. Amazon parrots aren't generally known for a sweet temperament, but this species seems to be the exception. The bird loves attention and will snuggle with its favorite person. That's no guarantee that all red lored amazons have the same personality, only a generalization. Like all amazons, this bird needs a large cage with plenty of chew toys. Sadly, this wonderful parrot species is endangered in the wild.
