Solomon Island Eclectus < Feathered Frenzy

Solomon Island Eclectus are one of the more popular subspecies. The female is dazzling red with a well-defined cobalt blue bib and blue eye ring. The male is a stunning green, a shade darker than the Vosmaeri. It is also slightly smaller. When these parrots were first discovered, they were put as separate species. Once it was understood that they are actually sexually dimorphic, and not different birds, they were classified the same way. This bird can be quite loud and that must be taken into account before it is adopted or purchased. All Eclectus roratus require a diet high in fresh fruits and vegetables, more so than other parrots. Serious health risks will occur in birds that are not given this necessity.
