Yellow Collared Macaws are a type of mini macaw, which is a smaller version of their bigger cousins. Mini macaws are very popular with bird owners that want a more manageable size, but with the huge personality macaws are known for. That said, they are not birds for first-time owners. They require an owner who knows parrot temperament and body language, and is willing to provide lots of daily interaction, as well as understand the typical macaw diet. Yellow collars are not demanding of their owner's attention, but appreciate handling and playtime every day to keep them tame. This species does not seem to do well with small children and does not appreciate a noisy home. A big cage with lots of destructible toys as well as a playgym outside the cage is a necessity.
