Feathered Frenzy > Zebra Finch
|
Zebra Finches are an extemely popular Australian Grass Finch. As the name implies, they are found on the drier grasslands of Australia. They have a soft, chirpy call and are constantly busy. This species does best in small groups, and the cage must be sized accordingly. It is very easy to sex zebra finches: Males have a red beak, orange cheek patches, and a speckled chest with a black bar across it. There are a variety of color mutations where this may not hold true, but the female should still have the noticeably oranger beak. Some mutations include: Black Breasted, White, Chestnut Flanked White, Orange Breasted, and Florida Fancy. Zebra finches are not a pet bird that you can hold. They do not enjoy it, and they will fly away. You cannot clip a zebra finch's wings to prevent it from fly around, because they fly to get around inside their cage. They don't climb on the bars like parrots. Clipping their wings would take away that ability. Zebra finches make a nice, lively addition to the home.
